7th October - National Inshore Rescue Boat Championships @ Bournemouth

National Inshore Rescue Boat Championships

This year's National Inshore Rescue Boat Championships saw the beginning of a brilliant partnership between Rushbox and the Surf Lifesaving Asccociation. The event took place at Bournemouth Pier which turned out to be the perfect setting. Not only were there a record number of teams entering but the event also caught the attention of the hundreds of passers by who stopped to see why these crazy people were running up and down the beach on an early october afternoon.

Rushbox was instrumental in helping the Surf Lifesaving Association encourage more females to enter the championships by not only sponsoring the female events but also providing the female winners with a few goodies to take away. In the end Branksome womens team won by a margin of 9 points and walked away very 'Rushbox happy'

Rushbox would just like to say a massive thanks to Bill and Shelly for helping us establish what we hope to be a beautiful friendship. We would also like to say thanks to all the competitors for making the event as successfull as it was and for providing us with some ace feedback.

Rushbox looks forward to seeing you all in 2008!

27th - 29th July - 25th Annual Weymouth Beach Vollyball Classic

25th Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic

The weekend saw one of the UK’s premier beach volleyball events come to Weymouth beach. The golden sands and idyllic surroundings of Weymouth blended together to make this one of the most prestigious events to win. This and the glorious sunshine pulled in the crowd creating an electric atmosphere for both the men’s and the women’s finals.

The womens final was a very closely contested event with Lucy Boulton / Denise Johns regaining their title by defeating Shauna Mullin / Zara DampneyM21-16, 21 –17. Boulton and Johns, the Great Britain number 1 ranked pair had stopped off to compete in Weymouth, only their second British event of the year, before continuing their progress on the World Tour. Both players were delighted to have regained their Weymouth crown and Lucy said ‘We didn’t want to miss coming to Weymouth, we travel all around the world playing Volleyball but Weymouth is where it all started for us’.

Their opponents Dampney and Mullen were making their first appearance in a Weymouth final and they could have easily frozen but instead they played some exceptional back court volleyball which pushed Boulton and Johns all the way. However on the big points towards the end of the set Boulton and Johns greater experience told and some power hitting from Lucy Boulton saw them through.

The first set in the mens final was one of the tightest ever seen with 12 set points being exchanged before eventually Bowes and Meidzybrodzki managed to clinch the two point lead needed for victory (28-26). Fee and Glitz stormed back in the second set to level the scores (18-21) and sending the match into a tie break.

Bowes and Miedzybrodzki gained a three point advantage early on and were able to hold their lead throughout the set and clinch the title at 15-12.

Overall the event was a huge success with all the teams expressing their pleasure at the weekend they had in Weymouth. Overall 250 matches were played on the 11 courts and there is no doubt that in its 25th year Weymouth yet again clinched its position as number one for Beach Volleyball in Great Britain.

7th July - Brighton’s Paddle around the Pier Competition

Paddle Round The Pier 2007 @ Brighton Beach

Wow, what a weekend! the sun came out and the sea was flat; perfect conditions for a paddle around the pier.

This year's vessels were definitely very weird and extremely wacky ranging from a giant floating poo to a treasure island and a bedknobs and broomsticks style craft Wall climbing, break dancing, free tai chi lessons and a surprise entry from Norman Cook (aka Fat Boy Slim) all ensured that the crowd were continually amused. The Rushbox stand created quite a storm in itself, inviting people to come in and have a browse and even get a freebie or two from if they were lucky.

The Rushbox team arrived back in London completely shattered late sunday night but with no doubt that the weekend was a complete success. Look out for us again at next years competition. you never know we might get Martin in a bikini by then, no excuses!

Surf Relief 2007 @ Watergate Bay Cornwall

Team Rushbox Wins Gold!
An extremely early wake up call was required for the Rushbox crew to make it down to Watergate Bay, Newquay for Surf Relief day, the popular annual surfing charity event.

Spectators turned up in their thousands to watch the pro surfers battle it out in the clean(ish) 2-3ft surf conditions, entrants competing in the Mens, Womens, Groms and fun board competitions were in the water dazzling the crowds with their trademark moves from the first heat at 9am right up to the open Mens final at 4.30pm. The eagle eyed would have been able to spot the Rushbox crew carving up a few waves of their own!

Rushbox was proud to sponsor this great event, all proceeds were donated to the ‘Surfable’ project which is the UK’s first disabled surf school.
